Online Exhibitions

Conceived as an extension of Mariscotti's solo exhibition "Kaleidoscope" at Upsilon's 23 East 67th Street Gallery, this focused online presentation spotlights seven new paintings that incorporate the artist's signature elements of repetition and informal abstraction.

Upsilon Gallery is pleased to present "What is Abstraction?," a solo-artist OVR dedicated to British painter Clyde Hopkins. The exhibition gathers 12 paintings produced by the artist between 2002-2008 which give way to a reckless pictorial anatomy, where shapes seem to have more personality than they need.

Between 2010 and 2011, working with an iPad, Hockney created a series of landscapes from the Yosemite National Park in California, capturing the silence of the nature — bare expanses and dense forests — as well as the movement of the visitors. Hockney knew that the "Yosemite Suite" could be produced as large prints and so calibrated each gesture and color accordingly – transposing the scale from screen to print.

Complementing Hopkins' solo exhibition "Chaunticlere: Paintings from the 1980s" at Upsilon's 23 East 67th Street Gallery, which continues through June 18, this focused online presentation spotlights nine works on paper. The combination of the performative and immersive is an interpretation, but it may prompt us to look at these impressive and serious works not as historical documents from the archive, but with a new interest, in the present tense, accompanied by the elements of surprise and discovery.
